My Acura RL BBK Build
Posted: October 30th, 2014
After doing a little research and talking to some engineers at work. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to
have steel caliper brackets for my RL Calipers instead of the 6061-T6 Aluminum brackets.
So went on Amazon and purchased a bar of 4140 Steel.
Dropped the bar off with a buddy at the machine shop to cut, drill and tap it for me.
Here is the finish product. From the one bar he was able to produce 5 brackets.
Test fitted the bracket and it was a perfect fit.
THis is a side by side comparason of the Acura RL caliper vs the Honda Accord Caliper
Next on the hit list was the rotors. Alot of people say to use the 350z Track edition Brembo rotors. They are 12.8" in diameter.
The problem that I found was that the rotors were to thick. They are about 30mm thick to be exact which is a problem because it causes a clearance issue.
To solve that you would have to shave the calipers. I opted to use Nissan Maxima rotors. They are only 12.6" in diameter but are only 28mm.
This was a perfect fit.
As you can see there is plenty of clearance.
Here is the finish product.
Decided to change the color on them:
